What kind of working time does D151 have? Can you work it as long as you want/need until the defects are removed? Is it possible to remove the defects and leave a haze-free finish with a polishing pad on a DA with D151? Also, any problems with staining the trim with D151? Thanks for the help!

D151 uses SMAT technology, and is quite oily like M205. It works fast, but you can pretty much work it as long as you'd like, assuming your pad is clean. Haze-free finish really depends on how hard the paint is....on medium to hard paint, yes. On soft paint, I wouldn't count on it. Best thing is to just give it a shot and experiment with different pads/techniques. It's incredibly easy to use and leaves a stupid slick finish.

As for trim, I've yet to use an abrasive product that won't stain trim.

Hmm.. I always use the D151 with my rotary and work it in until the haze is all gone which is around 2-3 passes. It has slightly a bit more cut that 205... and is def. my favorite AIO polish. This is ideally for cars that have average swirls or a 1-3 year old car. Although, for my production details, I have done cars that had been neglected/oxidized with very good results... but there are still some swirls evident. All in all.... it is great stuff. I am not sure about molding since I don't hit it so I would not know.

The car I'm looking to use it on is a 1990 Honda Accord. Paint is probably in between soft and medium, with light swirling and few if any heavy defects (RIDS, water etch marks, etc.).

Also, would you foresee any problems with bonding using D151 to correct and following with Collinite 915 or 845? This is assuming following D151 with an IPA wipedown and a wash to ensure no residue is remaining.


Also, I would not be using the protection capabilities of D151 - I would work it until the defects were removed then immediately wiped off.

I wouldn't even worry about having to use IPA to get 915/845 to bond.

Chances are, if there is any micromarring left behind from D151, you're not going to see it on that light metallic paint job.

Exactly my thoughts. Working on my silver metallic, you can't see micro-marring. Light metallics are a lot easier to work with!

D151 will be the next polish I buy to use on light colors.

So I could probably use D151, remove the defects, wipe off the residue, then immediately follow with 845 or 915? No foreseeable issues with bonding or product performance?

Carnauba wax doesn't form a "bond" to the paint like sealants do. You should be fine.

Interesting, I never really knew that. Does it "sit" on top of the paint?

Shane if you plan to apply a wax anyway why not just use a dedicated paint cleaner like M205/PO203?

Well, I have both M205 and D151, and I've heard nothing but good about D151 so I was wanting to give it a whirl. Might as well use it for something.

thanks for this thread. i just ordered a sample bottle of D151 and am looking forward to using it. i think i'll use it on cars with little swirling or just use M205 solo. i imagine i could use M205 followed by D151. Or would it be the other way around? Also a orange or white CCS 5.5" on my PC could also be used?
