Like the title says this is a 70 Chevelle SS L78 matching numbers car. These cars now bring lots of money when they are in perfect shape. This one has been repainted about 15 years ago and has been detailed a few times since then.

The paint has been burned in numerous areas, tons of scratches and the paint started to oxidize. I was asked to bring the paint back to life as best as possible. I brought the paint back but some scratches had to be left behind but all in all the owner was extremely happy.

I clayed the paint, wiped it down several times with solvent and then began the paint correction. Products used were my rotary, 105/205/UF, LC Kompressor and flat pads.

I could not move the vehicle outside since the water pump had been removed.

This is what I had to work with.

Now for a few 50/50 shots after 105/kompressor pad.

Beautiful job. LS6 was a 454 car. L78 was a 396 car.

Thanks, and you are correct, he has two of these cars one LS6 and this one the L78. Thanks for pointing that out.

Now that is one sweet machine... anything with a Big Block Chevy gets my attention...

Nice work Dana.

You mentioned oxidation? Since clear coats are more prone to swirls and single stage paints are more prone to both oxidation and swirls, was this a single stage or a bc/cc?

Regardless, nice work and it's always fun to work on classic muscle cars for their large, smooth panels and lack of pebble textured black plastic trim... (Ugh)

Great before and after shots too. Thank you for taking the time to put down the RB and set-up and take these story-telling shots for our forum community to enjoy.

I was just admiring this again and noticed this time that it looks like the car had hood pins that have been removed. Did you remove them for polishing?? BTW once again Great job! and sweet ride. A buddy of mine had a red one w/ blacks stripes back in high school, ohhhhhhh !

Thanks. I wouldn't call it a resto-mod since the only thing that is changed are the wheels.

Nice work Dana! Love the 50/50 shots

Thanks Corey.

Thanks Mike, Yes it was oxidation on this paint. It is a bc/cc paint job. It was nice to work on panels that that were pretty much straight.

Awesome job on that Chevelle.

Can't believe the swirls on that puppy!

Gotta love the Chevelles!

My favorite was the LS6 454

My last research, a numbers matching LS6 brought 6 figures, the L78, not as much.

A lot got the LS5 454's up to LS6 specs easily enough. A few of the LS5's found themselves in Monte Carlo SS's

Good show!
