Different waxes make orange peel more noticable?

This morning I got bored and decided to do an IPA wipe down and lay down a coat of my new Pinnacle Signiture Series II wax. When I was all said and done, it looked as if the factory orange peel was more noticable than before I did the wipe down. Is this something I am imagining, or do different waxes help make the peel less noticable?

The paint is Dodge Orange Blast Pearl on a 2005 Neon.

maybe the wax/sealants being used just amplify the finish a bit more, especially after a good polishing.
