Hello my name is Kevin and I live in West TN. Came across this web site looking for different wax products. Currently using Glare. I guess that it is not very popular since I do not even see it listed here. I would like to know if it is recommended for the average person to use the Porter Cable 7424, looks like that is a critical part to get the shine that everyone wants on there vehicle. I was looking at ordering the Forum Favorite but what kind of finish will I get if I only apply by hand.

Welcome to Autogeek Online!

This forum is dedicated to support the products offered on the www.autogeek.net (http://www.autogeek.net) store.

For at least the last 15 to 20 years the Porter Cable Dual Action Polisher has seen a HUGE increase in popularity among "enthusiast" detailer and that's for a number of reasons but one of them is because starting in the 1980's car manufactures switched over to basecoat/clear coat paints and because these types of paints are more difficult to work on by hand than traditional single stage paints you will get much better results, easier and faster by machine than by hand.

If you put a lot of passion behind the pad, and only work small sections at a time, and when moving onto a new section overlap a little into the previous section you can create a very nice finish working by hand.

How much work it will be depends upon the current condition of the paint and your expectations and goals.

Paint with lots of swirls and scratches will take longer to create show car finish than paint that already looks great to start with.

Removing defects like swirls and scratches means removing a little paint and that's where it gets difficult.

Read through the two threads A4 1.8tqm provided above, they are both pretty detailed and show what can be done by hand and in the case of the Man vs Machine, how long it takes to work by hand as compared to working by machine.

Just to note, it's usually best to "Introduce Yourself" in an Introduction forum group to let everyone know you've officially crossed over from Lurker to Active Member. Maybe tell us little bit about yourself, where you live, what you drive or what projects you're working on etc.

Then if you have product or process questions, look through the different forum group categories and try to pick one that the topic matches your questions and then start a dedicated thread for your specific questions

Clicking the below link will take you to the list of different categories or groups of forums identified by their title.

Autogeek Online Forum Topical Groups (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/)

Or you can simply post your questions is the Detailing 101 forum which is a catch-all forum for any kind of question.

Auto Detailing 101 (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/auto-detailing-101/)

If everyone who joins posts their questions to the "Introduce Yourself" forum group then we could get rid of all the other groups and just have one group called,

Introductions and Everything Else.
