A well respected detailer told me to use my Flex 3401 on speed 4(white or gray pad) when using M205. What are the other experts view on this? :) I thought I should use speed 6, just like 105(orange).

Depends what you're trying to do, and what paint you're using it on. On the Z06, I'd use it on speed 6. I've finished out C5s and C6s on speed 6 with a gray finishing pad with great results.

yes, my C6 z06. I've been using a white pad with 205 after 105(orange). :xyxthumbs: Should I use a grey pad instead of white?

Edit: I guess it would depend if there's micro marring from the orange. However, I've never seen marring from 105/orange unless I don't now what to look for....

I'm no expert but on my red c5 I finished off the 205 with a black pad with wonderful results. I also used an orange pad with 105 first .

What speed did you use with 205?

Test with the gray pad and see if you are getting the results you want. Gray is less aggressive than the white (know you know that, but...), so that would be your best bet if it works for you. Also try it on speeds 4-6 to see what's working.

(The whole point of my post is to say...You've got a starting point to work from, just dial it in now).

205 is not really a jeweling polish by any means. It has a decent amount of cut to it.

With that said, my PERSONAL preference is to follow 105 with 205/gray. I find that it still corrects any slight amounts of micromarring left behind by 105, and leaves a much nicer finish than a white pad.

I have never had 105 leave any significant amounts of micromarring, so I find 205 with the white pad unnecessary.

Out of curiosity, are there times when you wouldn't use speed 6 with 105/205? Does it depend on the hardness of the paint?

But if after the 105 you still have minor swirls, would the 205 and black pad have enough cut to remove them?

And if using the 205 w/white, couldn't you go several passes at speed 6 with little pressure to remove remaining minor defects, then 1-2 passes at speed 4 with no pressure to kind of 'polish' or 'finish' the paint?

Interesting questions. :xyxthumbs:
