Is the plastic hub-like thingy in the center supposed to come off? I haven't tried, but it looks a little out of place...
It's on the velcro side too...

It's a line up peg and shouldn't hurt pads without a hole.

Thanks man. After looking at it for a minute, it lined up just right with my centering post; size wise.

Like Rsurfer said it is for centering pads on the backing plate. However the center piece is also removable. You can unscrew it. I just leave it on though. It works fine for pads that do not have a centering hole.

I don't know how hard it is to remove as I have not taken mine off, but I do know that the centering nib is removable.
