Differences between metal polishes

I understand the differences between paint polishes but I do not see much discussion about metal polishes. How do polishes for chrome, aluminum, etc, differ? Do they have abrasives like paints?

I can tell you from using many from different sources not only the abrasives but chemical makeup might differ. Consider something like P21S Polishing Soap which seems more natural and seems to use lemon, whereas others seem to use ammonia and smell toxic.
