I bought a Flex 3401 with a ton of 5.5" LCC pads. I love the performance of both BUT after washing the pads and letting them air dry they velcro backing has shrunk just a little. Now unless I stretch the pad and make sure to center it there's just a little backing plate sticking out.

I'm thinking of upgrading to 6.5" pads since there's a good deal on a six pack of 6.5" pads plus the 15% Labor Day sale.

If I do I'll have way too many pads. I have about 7 that are still brand new (assorted colors) and another 5 or so that are well taken care of. I might sell the sealed ones.

Any input? Should I buy more pads (and risk a divorce)? I was thinking of the LCC 5" backing plate (which would be cheaper), but it seems that the Flex backing plate is special and Flex 3401 doesn't accept those generic post backing plates.

Isn't the bp 5.9"?

Hi santov,
I believe the Flex Backing Plate will only accomodate 6.5" and 7.5" pads.
If i'm not mistaken the only way to accomodate a smaller pad is by using the Edge Adapter system.
Good Luck!

Not to fear, but do be careful. I use 5.5" pads on my Flex 3401 - they just fit on the backing plate.

BUT there is no room for error - you must be very careful not to allow the rotating BP to touch the finish at transition points or tight areas (like around/under the mirrors).
