Feed back please
When I went out to wash my Escalade I noticed this scratch and chip. These are the first and only damages to the paint on the car. What is the best method to repair this damage and get it to as near new condition as possible? the car is a 2009 Cadillac Escalade and the color is dk blue metallic. When I ran my finger nail over the scratch it seemed to be deep.

Have you tries polishing it to make it look a little better? Otherwise probally a repaint is in order.

You could try polishing, or try a cleaner wax and see if that would hide it. If it doesn't, then make sure it's clean with mineral spirits or something, and either get some touch up paint of the right color and brush in the paint lengthwise, a single light coat at a time. You might want to mask the surrounding area if you can, to minimize slobber. It will possibly take you 3-5 passes with the paint to make the paint either at the same level as the surrounding paint, or slightly higher, which will allow you to carefully wet sand the raised touch up paint to blend with the surrounding paint as well as possible. When you touch up the paint, you need to shake or mix the metallic paint every 10-15 seconds or so to make sure the metallic particles are distributed as evenly as possible throughout the paint. A quick way to camouflage it would be with dark blue permanent marker. They might even make a metallic paint pen close to that color. However, it is only possible to get a perfect repair by repainting the whole panel, if it is a metallic or a pearl. No touch up of a metallic is perfect. Best you can do to touch up is to fill it with paint to make it look better from a distance, and to prevent it from rusting.

If you can feel with you're finger tip you beyond polishing that looks preety deep. Go to you Cadillac dealer Get their touch paint. It be the closest to you color then get some touch up clear @local auto parts store most touch paint doesn't have clear so you color will be off. Then goto arts&craft store and buy 2 of the thinnest paint brushes they sell this will allow to just get in the scratch only. Step 1 prep area .Mineral Sprits or Preps Sol. Step2 get fine brush and dip into touch paint dab brush to remove excess paint fill stratch carfully do 2 to 3 coats letting dry in between coats let dry for couple hours then do 2 coats clear you want to over lap on to own paint slightly. Step 3 Wait 24hrs to cure and wet with 2000 grit to blend them to gether. Then use your 3401 with med cut compound to remove scratches from wet sanding.Take it easy because it's fresh paint . You have the skills with the work you did on your porsche just take you time LOL
