I just got my PC-7424XP last week and am getting ready to polish my camry for the first time. It has very thin pinstriping (tape) at the top of the doors. Do I put painter's tape on top of the pinstriping?

I never do, just keep in mind where the pad is spinning up to. :) So far, zero casualties.

What is the best/safest way to remove factory applied stripes?

My '98 Ranger came with them. They were tacky (and I don't mean sticky) in '98, and unlike wine, they have not become better with time...

Use a hairdryer to warm them up and slowly and carefully peel them up . The slower you do it that quicker it will be, if that makes sense. Your goal is to peel them off as one big piece. Maybe use some goof off or something similiar to remove residue. You will probably want/need to clay and machine polish so that the color behind the pinstripes will match.
