Is the new model a forced rotation design?

Griot's Garage has a new random orbital with the same specs as the Porter Cable 7424XP, except with a different handle, that is adjustable, and more like the Flex. I'm guessing it IS a Porter Cable 7424XP with a different housing. With AG now carrying Griot's products, I'd much prefer that over the regular 7424XP, because of the handle design.

unless you use one or hear some good feedback on it, i wouldn't purchase one just yet. if you purchase the PC, you know what you'll be getting as it's been tried and true (and a workhorse) for many many years...

I discovered Griot's Garage a few years back. Long before I stumbled across Autogeek. I have the older version of Griot's polisher. I read somewhere that it was the P/C 7424 just rebranded for Griot. It has the same type of handle that is on the new one, and it is very nice, the way it is postioned. I will also say that I have been very please with all Griot's products I have used. But I also think the polisher limits you. When I did find Autogeek, I discovered the choices available. Thought I would try some CSS pads, 5.5 inch. Well the polisher backing plate is 5.75. So I took the polisher apart, and you can not replace the backing plate, so no 5.5 inch pads for me. And Griots only offers two pads, orange polishing, and red waxing. So if you think you might want to try other pads, I would call Griots and ask if the backing plate can be changed on the newer polisher.

I will be adding the new PC 7424 XP to my garage soon, for more choices.

I guess it's good that the manufacturer decided that more power was needed (even the Griot's unit got a boost), but having to buy a new unit to get more power is just hard to justify for a non-pro user. Maybe I could justify it by keeping the old one as a back-up, but I'm going to wait on both the Porter Cable and Griot's units until I see some real-life feedback on their use. OR, maybe I will finally get motivated to go rotary! :buffing:
