Do you get faster results with a rotary (makita) than an orbital (7424) I hear the Meguairs 105 is better with a rotary and Menzerna SIP is better with an orbital. Does the rotary save time? Not sure if I should go with a rotary? I love my 7424 with SIP.

Rotary is much faster with any polish and gets better results.

I'd compare rotary vs orbital the same as orbital vs hand polishing.

The flex 3401 is not that far behind a rotary.

I did not get that impression, especially not on cars with hard clear coats. If the defects are easier to remove then I could see that but I still think the rotary is a few steps above even a flex. However a flex is much better IMO than a PC.

I agree the rotary is faster. But, the flex is not that far behind. On hard clears like a vette, a rotary is far more efficient. For a safe polisher, the flex does a great job. A PC, is way far behind both.

How about this:

PC = Honda Accord

Flex = Chevrolet Camaro

Rotary = Chevrolet Corvette

:D

A pc is not as far behind the rotary as all of you say it is.

There's been many threads on autopia of people who previously used rotarys now switching to pcs. I'm not talking about just any joe schmoe detailer either.

With the right product and right technique the pc can be an efficient defect remover in less steps.

My problem with the PC is the vibrations kill my arms after a while and to get similar results you have to use non diminishing abrasives with a LOT of pressure. That reduces the spectrum of products that can be effective and it's just more difficult to use.

Also most of the top detailers still use a rotary.

The flex has forced rotation. So you can use pressure. The PC does not. If the backing plate stops spinning the PC loses effectivness.

Yes, I'd definitely get a Flex over the PC if those were the only two choices. The thing that I find strange is that from what I've read people get better results with the PC than the Flex with the KBM, that just doesn't make sense to me.

I forget. Did they try the KB method with the flex at all?
