Let me start by saying there are no pics as I forgot to
bring my camera with me. The victim? A 1997 Black
Thunderbird that I have been trying to bring back to
life.
Got my two orders this week (pics of those to follow) along with
a flex/LC kit about three weeks ago.
In my two orders were Megs 105 DA Version and Megs Soft
buff pad 2.0. I completely forgot that I had that pad and
used the LC orange CCS pad.
I washed the car with the Duragloss I just got in one of this weeks
orders. I usually use Megs Deep Crystal or Gold Class.
I have to say I love the Duragloss. The smell is great. I poured
a few ounces in the bucket and proceeded to fill with water.
1st lesson, fill the bucket half way with water first. It suds
up immediately and you have a bucket full of suds before the
water reaches 1/3 the way up the bucket. I finally get the
bucket filled with water and start washing. Lots of suds
and much more slick than the Megs stuff. Still can't get
over the smell. Did I say the smell is great. It's like when
you take a shower and come out smelling like soap. If you
smell like soap you must be clean. The car smelled great.
Ok enough of that. Rinsed the car off and then dried it.
The car seemed shinier than when I am done with the Megs
soaps. Could be just me.
Now off to the polishing. I had just clayed this car last week
and did the baggy test and it did not need it. Primed the LC orange
pad and then put a dime sized amount on the pad. Started on 1
to spread the polish and immediately went to 6. Moving back and
forth, up and down. Stoped after it started to haze. Wiped and
guess what. It was very hard wiping the polish off with the MF
towel I was using. Added product and went over the same spot
and still it was hard. Spritzed with QD tried... Nothing. XMT
Pad Conditioner...Nothing. And then I figured it out... I think.
I wasn't working it long enough and possibly using to much
product. Did I mention I am new to this. Sorry I left out that
little detail. I switched to a new LC orange pad primed, added
a small amount of product, started on 1 to spread, went to 6 and
worked up and down, back and forth. The Megs 105 hazed and I
kept working. It then started to turn clear. I worked it a little
more. Then wiped with my MF and the small amount of haze
came off easily. I finished the driver's side that way and it
looks great. I can honestly say that I could stop right there,
put sealant on it, and wax and you would never know that I
only did one step. Those that are saying that it is close
to LSP are right if you work the product. Those that are saying
that if leaves marring and needs another step or two are doing
something wrong. Tomorrow I am doing the passengers side and
am using the Megs Soft Buff 2.0 pad. I have heard the results
are even better with those pads but don't remember if that
applies to the 105 or the 205.
To be continued. This car was keyed down both sides. I am in
the process of touching it up with Duplicolor's touch up paint, wet
sanding and buffing to see if I can get it close to perfect. This will
be my test vehicle for my new products.:righton:
