Hey guys need some help. I ordered an 09 F150 FX4 from Ford, sterling gray metallic. The build date is April 20th and the truck will be here on the 30th. Would it be OK to polish the truck? Not sure if the paint still needs time time to harden. Thanks

Here is the plan (I use a cyclo):
Collinite pre-cleaner (blue pad)
Menerza 101 (blue pad)
Duragloss 111 clear coat polish
Carnuba wax (recommendations)??

The word has been that by the time that you get delievery there has been plenty of time for paint to cure. Please don't let the delealer touch it. Take delievery and then CLAY_POLISH_PROTECT.

If the dealer touches it, you will need to polish it !

Congrats on your new truck. Collinite #840 Pre-Wax Cleaner says that it is formulated for single stage, enamel, and lacquer paint finishes. For clear coat finishes they recommend Pinnacle Paintwork Cleansing Lotion. Won't your truck have Base Coat Clear Coat Finish? Just my .02

Definitely don't let the dealer touch it! Be there when it comes off the truck and keep an eye on it. Slap them if they even look at it too much LOL

Thanks for the info. Yep truck will be clear coat. Rookie mistake with the collinite. Pinnacle it is.

Any suggestions on which clay to use? I won't let the dealer touch it. The are taking off the FX4 stickers though. I think the F150 FX4 stickers look dumb.

If a dealer touches it, you will get a DISO (dealer installed swirl option):D
tell the dealer you don't want that option...
Clay of my choice for a new vehicle would be Pinnacle Ultra poly clay (green), or Sonus green.

Thanks supercharged. I ordered the Pinnacle ultra poly clay kit that is on special at autogeek for $29.99.

One more suggestion. Don't let them put their dealer sticker or badge on it!

+1!!!

I would be waiting at the dealership the day it comes in and demand to do the new car prep myself.

New cars are 100% cured before they even reach the dealers lot. Factory paint is different then paint from a body shop.

EDIT: Just noticed the build date is 4:20! :D

You'll be fine to clay/polish/protect once you take delivery as a others have mentioned. And whatever you do, do not let the dealer touch that paint! I just did my '09 Malibu this weekend (bought her 4/10). Clayed, Optimum polish/white CCS pad, and SSII wax for LSP. Came out perfect!

New plan:
Pinnacle Cleansing lotion (cyclo blue pad)
Pinnacle ultra clay
Duragloss clear coat polish (cyclo blue pad)
Klasse high gloss sealant (cyclo white pad)

I am assuming you pre-clean before you clay. Also, I would think I light polish like the Duragloss should be good enough. I have some PB SSR2 if needed. What do you guys think?
