I have these little rust colored and black spots on many different areas of my Nissan Xterra. I have tried Klasse AIO, Clay, 3M Cleaner Wax, Meguiar's Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner, Isopropyl, and finally Goo Gone. The only thing that seemed to help somewhat was using Goo Gone and even then it required a LOT of elbow grease. If my vehicle wasn't silver, you would probably see a bunch of swirls after me attacking some of those spots. Here's some pics:

The arrows show some of the spots, not all of them within this picture. I did not feel it was necessary to make a bunch more arrows, they are only to point out some of the easier to see spots.

This is just to show the area where these pics were taken. This picture does not really capture the spots, but they ARE there:

Any suggestions as to what these spots could possibly be as well as how to get rid of them? I am still doing everything by hand so I will not be able to use a DA or rotary if you feel that is the only way to correct them. Thanks! :o

What kind of clay did you use? If you used a soft or medium grade clay bar, perhaps it is time to step it up to something harder, such as Meguiar's Aggressive Clay Bar. That can instill new scratches into your clearcoat, though.

I would second the clay opinion. That looks like the classic rail dust or fallout that has rusted in the paint. Always seems to rear its ugly head on white or silver finishes.

I used the clay bar that comes with Meguair's Smooth Surface Clay Kit (white which I believe is the mildest of their lineup).
I am guessing Meg's Aggressive Clay would work ok with ONR diluted to the clay lube ratio listed on the bottle? Now since I do not have a DA or rotary to clean up any marring or haze caused by the abrasives in the aggressive clay would it still be a good bet to try it? Would something like Ultimate Compound be safer for me without a machine than aggressive clay? Thanks again for the help!
