I'm a very excited newb with a rough paint job to deal with.:D

I just bought a whole bunch of stuff to try to correct paint on a black '98 acura. I'm not even sure that it's correctable, but here are some pics of what I am dealing with:

In order to bring the paint back to life I purchased:

flex 3401 w/free bag
menzerna power gloss - POS34A
menzerna IP - PO91E
menzerna Final Polish II - PO87MC
menzerna FTG - PO115CQ
danase wet glaze
wolfgang deep gloss paint sealant
wolfgang fuzion estate wax
wolfgang autobathe
full set of pads including the purple wool foam pads
a bunch of microfiber

some of the scratches are pretty brutal so I plan on taking my time (a lot of it) and completely going through each step of products. Are the polishes I chose a good step of what I need to do? I am not sure if I may need another step between the Intensive Polish and the Final Polish II? Or maybe I should use something instead of any of the products?

Also, what pads should I use with each polish. I am planning to start with the purple pads and the power gloss because the scratches are deep and plenty.

any other advice?

I don't think you're going to be able to do anything to the hood. That looks like crazing (cracking, crowsfeet, etc), and the only thing to fix that is a repaint.

I have seen this before on vehicles, One was a Lexus RX300, There are no products that I am aware of that will cure this ( I personally would like to know how this happens) maybe neglect from previous owners not waxing and taking care of the paint. But, like Josh said, You more than likely will have to have it repainted, if you are picky like me, that paint will drive you nuts until you have it repainted..........good luck....shame too, I love the Acura line of Vehicles.

That's what I was afraid of. Do you guys think polishing will take care of some of the marring like in pic #8?

With some compounding before hand, and then some polishing, it will look real good.

It can't hurt to try. I don't think you can do any more damage to that. The side shots look repairable, but that hood. WOW! The bright side is, you can only make it look better.

Yeah, I figure I would give it a go anyways. I think it's a good opportunity to get a feel for how everything works.

It's crow's feet , you can try buffing....but a repaint is in order.

BEWARE! Honda and acura paint is very soft.I can remove most defects in my hondas with a lc grey pad and PO85RD.

What exactly is crows feet? How is it different than scratched paint?

So do you think a compound like power gloss is too strong of an abrasive for this paint? I was thinking about trying it out for the heck of it, but if that's a bad idea I won't. I probably won't be able to repaint the hood for a few more weeks, so I don't want to screw it up any more than it is.
