I bought this stuff....

http://www.clean-rite.com/images/8.jpg
Purple Power dust off wheel cleaner

I was washing the jeep today and i ran out of bug remover. There are plenty of bug removers that say it can be used as wheel cleaner so stupid me thought that i could use this on the top of my windshield....after washing the jeep completely i noticed some nasty streaks running down the window...

I used invisible glass...it didnt touch it.

So i used a clay bar. thinking it was just grease or something....clay didnt touch it. I got my Diamondite glass resurfacing creme and it didnt touch it.

I got out my glass resurfacing pad and my UDM and polished the crap out of it. It didnt touch it.

SO THEN i got an old microfiber cloth and some gloves and put gasoline on it...scrubbed till my elbows popped then cleaned the glass.....still there....

I tried a heavy compound for paint...didnt touch it...

Im out of ideas....it looks like some sort of acid etching...im really pissed off at myself and am about to break my windshield so i can get a new one.....

any help would be great.

Try some 0000 steel wool, if that doesn't work it sounds like you stained the windshield.

Hey i used that stuff on my wheels but im very cautious when i do. It will eat away at just about anything without some type of protective clear coat on it. On the back it says streaking may occur and im most certain you're in the same situation. Where i have a scuffed up rim, that stuff totally turned it white like it was burning acid.

if the glass was scratched at all from the wipers, alot of harsh cleaners will "fog" the glass, especially wheel cleaners

Im not worried about it anymore...i got chips in it from off roading....ill just bust it out and get a new one....

Have you seen this information from the National Fire Protection Agency?

It is posted on the Internet that something like 50% of home fires involve gasoline. That doesn't make it true, but it does make it worth thinking about.

Check your local burn center as to how many of their patients are there because of a gasoline fire.

Gasoline is definitely a solvent, but there's lots of solvents that are much safer.

Exactly. As a firefighter i know exactly the dangers of gasoline and how to store it and use it safely. This is a do as I say not as I do scenario. I didnt have another solvent on hand at the time. As I also work in the ER as an EMT I can ALSO tell you that 90% of burns happen from stupid people doing dangerous things with gasoline or other combustibles. Those NFPA guidelines are written as if everyone was a moron.

Also its the fumes that burn with gas not the liquid. And I used a DAB on a rag to scrub my windshield. And then rinsed and cleaned the windshield. I properly disposed of the rag.

Guns are dangerous in the wrong hands as well, in a trained persons hand another story! :goodpost:

I appreciate your caution though! Just know that the gas was in good hands!

I seen an employee grab a strong wheel cleaner by mistake and spray it all over a brand new car once. He was supposed to be using a solvent to remove the undercoating overspary. It ended up staining the paint like it did on your window and we had to compound a brand new car to remove it.

He was such a big pot head! :D
