Good morning,

I am going to be ordering a Makita 9227 from here and need help with anything else I may need.

I already own a UDM with various Menz, and 3M products. I see the Makita already comes with 2 wool pads. I would like to have a few in reserve as backups if one becomes caked.

What are good pads to own (brand and type) to have for products with 1000, and 2000 grit to them (3m Finesse It, POS34A, PO83RD, PO106FF, Meg's #1, and #4).

I have an old 1969 Chevy truck hood that I will use to learn the new device, so I am not afraid to mess up. :D

Thank you for any responses.

3M makes very good wool pads, I personally haven't found better wool pads in over 20 years of using a rotary.

The hood is original paint. I also have a 2001 Accord, and a 2005 Jetta hood, that both have clear coat.

Where is the best place to order 3M pads? I have seen the 3m superbuff mentioned here, but what are good pads for compound and then polishing?

The superbuff II.

Thanks,

One more, I checked out 3M's site and there is 5 different pads (05700-05705). I see the polish pad is PN# 05705, I take it that would be good for say SIP and 106ff? Now there are 4 different buffing pads, what is a good one for use with power gloss?

Really, people seem to like them here. I may get one of the edge and one of the 3M and test. Which one of the 3M pads would you recommend for medium cutting from the Superbuff line?

Superbuff™ III Wool Pad (PN 05703) and Perfect-It™ III Wool Compounding Pad (PN 05719)

I would 'rate' 3M wool pads above Edge but there is not a too wide margin between them IMO

Always a pleasure, thank you to all. Anyone else have comments, please feel free.
