Can 5.5 inch pads be used on a flex, I need to order a flex or rotory, would like to try a flex I have a lot of 5.5 inch pads to just a few 6.5 inch pads. Thanks

You can use them but the edge of the backing plate is very close to the edge of the pad. You can use them but just be careful.
