You don't have to, but I always remove any LSP before I do any polishing. Because I like to know what I'm up against on the finish.

polishes are abrasive and mechanically strip old waxes and sealants. No need for special soaps or removal seperately prior to polishing. Pinnacle and P21S both make paint cleansing lotions which will chemically strip waxes for times when you dont wanna polish.

:whs:I alway's use prep sol to remove any LSP prior to polishing. I feel that if you don't do this step, the old wax or sealants will mix with the polish and will to some extent gum up your pad. Having a clean surface to polish IMO is the way to go. I also prep sol after polishing to remove any oils left behind by the polish and too inspect the paint for any marring that might have been missed or covered up by the polish.

its just a waist of time to take the extra step to remove something that might not even exist anymore....i mean if you used carnuba 3 months ago, and you are getting ready to polish, there isnt any carnuba left to remove...besides, polishing is going to remove anything that is present....

Most people clay before they polish too, which will remove most, if not all of the wax.

I find it very amazing how much can be learned here just by reading and often never having to ask a question . Thanks AG and members .
