This morning a friend and I went to have breakfast at a local cafe. When we were done we sat outside talking about cars because their was a few people washing cars in the parking lot. 10 Min has past and a guy with a mustang pulled up and ask for a full detail so the car wash owner told him he is a professional and that it cost $200. They started to bargain and got it down to $150.

The Mustang was stick shift and the the car wash guy got in the car to drive it to the wash bay and the car turn off 3 time. I started laughing and look at the guy shaking my head in petty.

The guy finish washing the car and started to clay the mustang. Half way through i saw the guy drop the clay on the dirty floor and picked it up and continued to clay the car. All i can do is think in horror the scratches he was putting on the paint job.

On my way out i told the mustang owner that they are putting scratches on his car. Before driving away i looked over and saw them arguing. Most car wash don't know what they are doing! :buffing:

What's the worse thing you saw at a car wash?

Sad just sad. I see cars leave car washes all the time and all I see is swirl marks all over. I remember see bmw cars (all black) in Kendall,Fl at a car wash called Busy Bee (right off US 1) and just watch guys dry the rims then paint with the same towels and not skip a beat. This was before I learned how to do it right, and even then I knew they were just pushing cars out asap to get more in.

I think a commercial car wash and a professional detailer are two very different things, and hope people feel the same way. A car wash is a general product, and detailing is best left to a specialist.

I had a light scratch on my passenger side door. I used a couple applications of scratch-x. It got it to the point where is was mostly invisible under most circumstances. However, I wanted to see if it could be wet sanded out.

I took it to a detailing shop. The car hadn't been washed and there was dirt over the area of the scratch. They proceeded to spray some green liquid from a bottle and clean the area with a dirty rag. This alone let me know that these guys didn't care about the work they were doing. Also, strangely they took down my vin number on the estimate invoice.

There are alot of fly by nighters out there. People that are not educated about car care ,detailing ,paint correction etc. It takes a person to have a Passion for cars that has pride in their work. You have to like what you do. It's not just about the money. I want my clients to be happy with my work. Then they will be repeat customers!
