Am I correct that there are different factory finishes for black metal trim used on door pillars, reveal moldings, etc? Some intended to be glossier than others?

Any suggestions for replicating the look of the "not so glossy" when it's damaged? Start with high gloss re-paint and rub down or start with less glossy re-paint and rub "up"?

I've only done one so far and while very good the gloss level isn't a perfect match to the rest. Have another to try on another vehicle and thought I'd ask. Thanks in advance.

metal trim is usually coated in black matte paint or clearcoated, either way it is still paint and should be treated as such. A good coat of a sealant is the best line of attack for it.

If it is glossy and now looks different, a light paint polish might help. Buff carefully and usually by hand in these tight areas. Then protect as offered above.
