I'm having a problem removing swirls. I have IP, XMT 3, 360, and some Megs#9. I also have a rotary and a UDM. I've watched the various videos and have done my best to copy them, but to no avail. What could I be doing wrong? I have the tools on necessary speed and pressure on the machines but after doing some passes the car still looks the same or only marginally better. The vehicle is a Chrysler Sebring. I'm lost.

Of the polishes that you mentioned the only one that will give you any "cut" you're looking for is XMT 3. Like the guys above ask, what pad are you using with XMT 3?
Whoops my mistake. As soon as I hit submit I realized that you had IP. That should give you enough cut also. Still, what pads?

I have LC CCS orange and white in the 6.5 inch sizes. I run the UDM on speed 6 and the rotary at 1000-1800 rpm. The swirls are no worse than average, which to me is moderate.

What year chrysler sebring ? Chrysler is known to have hard paint so that may be the issue you are having do to polishes that were not designed to cut the hard clear coated finish

yes i think would appear to be your problem . you need to use a polish designed for the hard clears .such as Menzerna sip,106ff,systemone and the meguiars 105.There are others but those are the ones that come to mind

Thanks everyone for the input it is greatly appreciated. I'm considering M105 or the 106ff. Does anyone have a preference and if I get the 106ff and use it with an orange pad will that combo be aggressive enough? I've read alot of comments on both and see both as great products.

M105 will do much more correction than 106ff, but from what I've read could potentially have more need for a true finishing polish. Whereas with the 106FF/FA, you *could* get away with just using that.

I don't think 106FF/FA does any different with an orange pad than with a white pad. SIP with an orange pad on the other hand. Since you've got the rotary, I think you'd be happy with M105 and a purple foamed wool pad, but hopefully more experienced rotary users will chime in. I tried out a rotary for all of 5 minutes before handing it back to its owner and going back to my Flex 3401.

We need to see pics of the swirls under the light.

I don't understand. I thought 1066 was the ultimate finishing polish?

Just a thought, but have you tried varying amounts of pressure? That can make all the difference in the world. Some people will tell you not to use pressure with a rotary, but i believe on vertical panels it is a must. I normally apply pressure until the polish flashes and then just use the weight of the machine 2 or 3 more times across and this technique has worked great. On horizontal panels (hood, roof, decklid) sometimes the weight of the machine is enough. Just something to try, hope you figure it out.

I use the same method and also have had good results. I'm going to purchase some m105 a purple wool pad and see what that combo will do.

This will leave some light holograms, follow up with a finishing polish(85RD or 3M Ultrafina) on a finishing pad and you should solve your swirl problems.
