View Full Version : A stupid question regarding tape

Sorry for the stupid question, but in a lot of pics I see people using tape like so:

You can see that he taped not just the trim but also he sectioned his car into 1X1 areas, which I get why, because he polishes section by section.
What I don't understand is this:
What do you do about the areas underneath the tape?, they remain unpolished!

I dont see the 1X1 sections in the picture you posted. The picture looks like he is going to use a rotary and dont want to polish the trim pieces or get too close to the edges.

How does he continue the polishing now?, if he continues with out tape won't he overlaps with the part he already polished?, isn't that like polishing the same part twice?, no harm?

Both halogen sides show marring. Anyway, you should always overlap your sections. Yes, you are polishing twice, but no harm.

People do this just for the photo, to show the 50/50 view of what the swirl or scratches look like and what the polished section looks like. Next he would move on and do the area that is not polished just as you should work in sextions.
