Hi all, it’s been awhile! Earlier this evening I was in a parking lot with my brand new (seriously, I’ve had it less than a week) black Mustang Mach-e. I received a serious door ding. I can see bare metal. I am curious if you all have any suggestions for fixing this. I will probably see if the PDR people I use can remove the dent, but the paint is going to need attention. I am worried about future rust in this area and the longevity of any repair.

for rock chips/scrapes down to metal, i put a piece of 3m door edge protection film (PPF strips, essentially) over it until it can be touched up.

Have the PDR guy fix the dent then do this for the paint... https://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/how-to-articles/125096-discerning-paint-chip-touch-up-not-everyone-every-chip.html?highlight=discerning+chip+repair

Yes! That’s what I was looking for! I knew I’d seen it before, but wasn’t sure. This is what I’ll be doing.

Thanks.

Why not do PDR and then let a professional spray painter restore the paint to it's original glory.

Why not do PDR and then let a professional spray painter restore the paint to it's original glory.

While this is always an option, I'd go the PDR and paint touch-up method first. Doing so will retain the factory paint on the door and that is always my number one priority if possible.

It's easy to repaint the door and make it look better than the original paint... It's harder to make it look exactly the same as the original. And on top of that, the repaint will never match the original for durability.
