I was wondering how far you go when doing paint correction/compounding on:

- your car

- friends car

- customers car

Do you always try to achieve 100% swirl/scratches removal ?

Do you leave some behind for a valid reason ?

Do you just compound until you achieve a good shine, regardless of swirls/scratches/marring ?

Or you go all the way until 100% of removable scratches/swirls is gone ?!?

My personal car gets 100% removal because there are no RIDS, etching, water spot pits etc.

Customer cars get as close to 100% if that's what they asked for however RIDS, thinning clearcoat, deep etchings etc may prevent that. If that's the case ALL those areas are pointed out to them beforehand.

This depends on how long you plan on keeping the car. If you are looking at 10 years or more nothing more than a mild compound and polish should be used. One car I had was polished so much that I could see where the paint was leveled from polishing. A few years later clear coat failure started.
