I own a 2018 RX 350 in Matador Red which has been well maintained. A year ago I applied a coat of CanCoat Evo and currently am polishing the car to prep for a different coating.
I maintained the CanCoat with Gyeon Ceramic Detailer plus Cure. Washes occur every two weeks and most times it’s done with 914, Absolute or ONR. No tunnels and only a few wand washes. The CanCoat is still very strong but like an idiot I want to change it. It beads and sheds like new and looks great. I’ve been super happy with the CanCoat.

My question concerns whether I should apply Moh’s or Pure when I recoat the car. I have both available and initially I was drawn to Pure because of its “dipped in glass” appearance.
The colour is a deep red metallic and is quite striking. Is there a visual difference or should I just flip a coin. I’d appreciate your input.

Can not speak for Pure, but MOHS is stupid easy to install. I've heard MOHS is better for lighter colors and Pure is better for darker colors.

Honestly I don't really buy into the whole "coating-designed-for-gloss" vs "coating-designed-for-durability" thing that some brands are toting in their coating lineup. I highly doubt that you would even really notice the difference between the two. There is just too much subjectivity behind that characteristic. Even IF there was a veeeeeery slight noticeable diff, that gloss and depth would likely be short lived and you'd just end up with the hard shell protection left behind which would just equal any other coating.

My 2cents: flip a coin.

Thanks for the two replies. One thought I had was that if I used the Mohs I could probably boost the gloss with one of the toppers that are recommended for gloss. It would be easier if I didn’t have a choice.

Wolfgang SPC had a candy gloss look and when topped with Wolfgang SIO2 spray the look seemed to soften slightly.

My CanCoat application is 11 months old. I use 3D Bead It Up as a drying aid after every wash.

Am I wrong thinking the longevity of the CC or any ceramic is off the chart when a “topper” is used to act as the sacrificial coat.

I will keep is simple if wanting to go with a more durable coating.

If you are a sucker for slickness then go with Mohs. Two layers for added durability.

If slickness is of no concern but you like the look of a quartz based coating then go with Pure. CanCoat is a quartz based coating. Expect the look to be very similar to what Cancoat has given you.

Please do tell me if im reading to much into this. Is your two layer suggestion given because you have experience with mohs "petering out" per say...a bit early?

I chose Pure EVO on this car for the candy-gloss effect. Although lacking in slickness, that's easily changed with the use of a topper or drying aid.

How long have you had the coating on the car?

Damn! That looks so gorgeous. It’s a similar colour to mine . The CanCoat improved the appearance of my car tenfold and of course cleaning was much easier.

Thanks everybody for your comments.

So far so good with Cancoat. It passed the beginning stages without failing or showing signs that it will which around here is freaking rare. I just did a bucket wash on a vehicle that had gone just over 2 weeks outdoors and it performed like it was day 1. Nothing except for 1 product I’ve ever tested has been able to do that in years of trying a bunch of lsps. I was literally smiling during the wash just now.[emoji4]

You are reading into it too much. Sychro Evo is junk so do 2 layers of Mohs instead.
