I stashed a junk hood off a 05 tahoe at the shop a while back for a future test of a couple products i wanted to buy/try.

Today was the day.
Tested 3d ACA500 and Lake country purple foamed wool pad on the flex supa beast.
ACA500 claims to be able to remove 1000 grit. Lc purple pads claim to be able to remove 1500 grit without leaving any haze or micro marring.( recommendations for both products of defect removal are for use with rotary). But I wanted to see what I could do with a forced rotation da.

I first sanded a section with 1500 grit paper. Next i buffed section with said products. And to my surprise. It did remove 1500 grit sanding marks, it also left no marring or haze. Sanding with 1500 also removed about 90 percent of total defects that were in the hood originally. I used 6 section passes, and by the last pass... there was little if any aca500 left to wipe off. Which was a plus.

I next sanded another section with 1000 grit.
With the same tested products, and it did clean it up some....it was a failed test of being able to remove 1000grit.

What else is interesting to note is, i tried a 3rd section with just trying to remove the defects that were on the hood originally when it was removed from the vehicle(no sanding involved)....and i was quite suprised that i was unable to remove said defects. It cleaned up some, but not like i thought it would. The defects were just to deep in the clear to be able to remove effectively without sanding.( no pics were taken for this 3rd section test).

This hood had and seen alot of tunnel washes, so the defects were substantial

Thanks for taking time to read, and hope it helps others in some way.

I also use the purple hybrid foam/wool pad and love it, I’ve used it with a midgrade menzerna 400 compound, after using 1500/3000 grit papers….. but I never was able to get all the sanding marks out with a DA, but when I moved to a rotary, it was effortless and came away spotless.

I should have tried menz400 on the sanded secrions but didnt. I did try it on the unsanded section and no luck. Still ended up with same minimal defect removal as with the aca500
