View Full Version : Blinded By The White - BMW 325i That Is

This little guy was a bear to correct - vision wise. I thought I'd removed all the light scratches, but the dealer pointed out a bunch I missed...so it was a re-do. I used System One X3 and didn't use enough pressure on the rotary plus my eyes didn't catch all the scratches.

Finished the car off with Meguiar's #26. Interior was cleaned with diluted apc and warm water in a spray bottle.

Overall, the car looks super white and glossy.

Now, I've got 3 silver Bimmers in the line to that will be easier to see my corrections as I work them.

Egad! Nothing worse than "the boss" pointing out errors, eh? In all honesty it makes me feel a little better that even top pros like yourself have an off day every once in a while. Did you tell him you haven't done a white one since 1993? :D

It absolutely glows now, simply beautiful.

That white shines, awesome. How much pressure did you use the second time ? With using the System 3 and a wool pad I didn't realize you had to add pressure ? Just looking for tips because I have a white car.

That's the question of the century! I wish there was a gauge to measure pressure for applications. That would solve a bunch of problems with rotary usage for sure. The answer is: I don't have a clue...I run the Dynabrade at 1200 rpm and I put enough pressure to change the tone of the motor.

More than that, I didn't check my work closely enough and the sharp eyed dealer did. He's my Quality Control person and I'm going to use his eyes before I move from compounding to polishing from now on. That way, re-do's can quickly be completed and I can move on after that step.

those interiors look better and better each time I see them, Great finish on the white, super wet, did you see the silver one I just posted? I used your technique with the sealer turned out really well

Thanks for the compliment Clay! Much appreciated. I did see the Silver 3 Series you did. That burnishing process really produces a nice uniform gloss and you barely (if at all) have to use a microfiber.

Great Detail.
Mine was not white,but here are some pics.
Process:
Washed ONR, grit guard two bucket
No Clay, New car
interior: wiped with apc,treated with Meg's foam for leather
Carpet: Folex and Aztec Heated
Wheels: Dri Wash N Guard for the Home
Tires:Grape Tire Dressing
Wax: Pinnacle Spray

White is the most difficult color for me to work on. I have to wait until the sun is no longer shining so I can use a fairly dim light to check for minor swirls or scratches. At 55 years old it's just too hard to see the subtle details if I am blinded by the light:D
