Morning!

I just picked up a new to me 2006 prius from Florida. The finish is definitely neglected. Plans are to claybar, polish, and do a ceramicoat with cquartz stuff.
However, the black trim around the windows and mirrors and such is faded and scruffy looking.
Previously, ive repainted it, used shoe edge dresser, wrapped in vinyl, etc. Ive never been pleased with the results for the effort or product.
I know ive tried back to black and some other products as well with no success.

Since I am NOT a detailer, i am trying to find the best solution for me.
What are you all using for serious neglecting black plastic, and how are you using it? Happy with the results and longevity?

Thanks!

My son has a 2014 Prius and the rear “spoiler” is painted gloss black and it is scratched all over. I tried polishing it but the paint was too messed up to do much. It looks better but it won’t ever look really nice until; I repaint it, which I did buy a used spoiler cover to have that done.

So the first question I have is, is this really plastic trim or is it painted trim? Of plastic trim then I’d use Solution Finish to restore and then cover with the Solution Finish Over the Top Coating or Pinnacle Ceramic Trim Restore and Coating.

I had to look closer.
The stuff thats really haggard looking is either plastic or very hard rubber. Think window sweeps, cowl panels, mudflaps, air dam. Just stuff that got beaten by tge Florida sun.

How does the solution finish work? Machine application, etc?
And will my already purchased ceramic coating work ok with it?

Solution Finish. Once it's cured use a trim coating like Gyeon Trim Coating and be happy!

I am far from being an expert, but the Griots trim restore works magic on my wifes Highlander black external trim. Lasts about 5 - 6 months too in the North Carolina sun.

Stuff is great and goes a long way.

Solution Finish is one of the best trim restorers on the market but doesn’t last long so you have to coat it if you want the effect to last. The developer of Solution Finish knows A TON about different plastic trim based on some different videos I’ve seen. So that’s what I reach for and then I use Pinnacle Ceramic Trim Coating over the top to make it last for 6 months or more. But Solution Finish came out with their own trim coating a year or two ago and I’m sure that works well too. CarPro DLux, Gyeon Trim, and many other trim coatings would also work well over Solution Finish.

Cerokote worked on some pretty faded 6 year old trim.

This is 10 months plus: car is dirty in pic but you can still see it’s nice and dark. A little glossy at 1st but tones down after month or so.

Griots ceramic trim wipes are made by them so should be just as nice.
