How do you define "old school combos"? Combinations of what?

Based on some recent threads here, there are still plenty of people using carnauba waxes and all manner of sealants.

My go-to production detailing wax is Collonite 845 and 915 upon request. I used 915 in 2002 when I was in college, i guess that counts as old school. Im a firm believer, if you want depth wax is the way to go. (even though I love me some Wolfgang PS)

Pfffft, only came back from a break to chime in did the fire over ice combo, midnight sun over BFWD, old school. That's how I roll :)

Never was a fan on Klasse SG. Replaced AIO with DG 501 a couple of years ago.

I think I still have some of the Klasse Twins buried in my garage. Bought them somewhere around 2002, but I've long since moved on to other products.

I have some 845 on hand as well, but also haven't used it in quite some time. It replaced the Klasse products for me for several years.

As time has gone on and chemistry of these products evolved, I've found products that work better for the characteristics I need in an LSP. The use of high-solids coatings has replaced sealants. However, if I was to go back to sealants again, the "old school" 845 would no longer be my first choice. After using Wolfgang SiO2 sealant, I found it far easier to apply, equally/more durable, and provided much better water behavior than older products.

There is nothing wrong with some of the older products, and if appearance is the sole criteria, I think a good carnauba wax is be hard to beat. My only advice is don't be afraid to try new products because companies are continually improving their products or developing new ones which perform better as the technology evolves.

Nope. Feel stuff out now is better technology. A wax may (does) look better than a coating bit lacks in ease of use and durability.

If a garage queen i get waxing but coatings 100% over sealants.

Hmm. I find wax pretty easy to use. Especially Souveran. It doesn't get any easier than that.

Yeah you just need to apply more often and again protection levels are meh.
