Lake Country Thinpro 5.5” Gray pads if you’ve got a 5” backing plate.

6.5” ones if you’ve got a 6” backing plate.

That’s what I would get if you’re looking for a cutting pad. They also finish down pretty darn good in most cases.

I'm cutting with that thing on an almost daily basis.

I usually use Buff and Shine Uro-Fiber.

Griots Fast Finishing microfiber pad at Autozone. Despite the name, it will cut.

the backing plate you have pictured above ^ cannot be used with hook & loop (aka velcro) pads. there are handful of quality DA backing plates available and i would suggest this 5" one below...

Griot's Garage 5 Inch Vented Backing Plate (https://www.autogeek.net/griots-5-inch-vented-backing-plate.html)
https://s.yimg.com/aah/autogeek/griot-s-garage-5-inch-vented-backing-plate-22.gif

along with these 5.5" pads...
Lake Country ThinPro Foam Pad System 5.5 Inch (https://www.autogeek.net/lake-country-thinpro-5-inch.html)
https://sep.yimg.com/ay/autogeek/lake-country-thinpro-foam-pad-system-5-5-inch-16.gif

also, for thin/narrow panels (A/B/C Pillars, etc.) consider a 3" DA backing plate (GG had one but it's been discontinued but this will work too) as well as 3.5" pads...

3 Inch Dual Action Flexible Backing Plate (https://www.autogeek.net/3inch-dual-action-backing-plate.html)

Lake Country ThinPro Foam Pad System 3.5 Inch (https://www.autogeek.net/3-inch-thinpro.html)
https://sep.yimg.com/ay/autogeek/lake-country-thinpro-foam-pad-system-3-5-inch-15.gif

most common used are the white and orange pads. pick up a few microfiber pads for severe defects in case you need them...

ThinPro Orange Heavy Cutting Pad – This foam pad provides the level of cut expected from a foam cutting pad, but finishes like a foam polishing pad! It removes most paint imperfections and leaves a finish that is nearly wax ready.

ThinPro White Polishing Pad – The white pad features very dense foam. Use this pad to remove light imperfections, apply a light polish, cleaner wax, and any jobs for which you'd use the standard Lake Country white polishing pad.

5 1/4 Inch Microfiber Cutting Pad (2-Pack) (https://www.autogeek.net/414inulmipad.html)
3 1/4 Inch Microfiber Cutting Pad (2-Pack) (https://www.autogeek.net/314inulduacm.html)

The benefits of microfiber pads versus foam pads for compounding and polishing? It’s quite simple, actually. Microfiber pads are constructed of thousands of strands of microfiber and these fibers provide more cut because they’re actually a form of abrasive. Lake Country Microfiber Cutting Pads take this concept a step further by utilizing microfiber loops that are more plush and more dense compared to other microfiber pads.

yes, there's no use for it detailing wise. notice it's smooth and has nothing for the velcro on the pads to adhere/attach to. notice the yellow 3" DA backing plate pic above ^ with the black (J hooks) on one side where the velcro pads would attach to...

how about this one? does a velcro one work? https://www.princessauto.com/en/6-in-velcro-back-up-pad/product/PA0008891871

there's no info on it (probably the same thing just bigger of what you already have) and besides that it's a 6" plate which is too big. you want a 5" DA backing plate...

my advice is not to skimp on a quality DA backing plate and pads. they are an investment and will last a long time with proper care. you get what you pay for...

You could purchase some industrial Velcro and glue to your plate but you’d probably just be better off getting a new plate.

None that I know of.

That backing plate is designed for PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) sanding discs.

Get a 5" DA Backing Plate and Lake Country 5.5" Thinpro pads. They work great with a Porter Cable 7424XP

lake country 5 inch backing plate, 5 inch backin plate, 5 inch hook and loop backing plate (https://www.autogeek.net/lc43125.html)
Lake Country ThinPro Foam Pad System 5.5 Inch (https://www.autogeek.net/lake-country-thinpro-5-inch.html)

I'm with Visitor and would suggest MF cutting pads. And of course LC Thin Pros to finish out.
