View Full Version : So, what is the deal with Meguiar's D2002 (Iron Removing Spray "Clay")

This appears to be 1 of 4 products (that I've noticed, at any rate) from their Detailers line that have popped up at chain stores.

It seems like iron removers are challenging to find without having to be ordered online. Sometimes I'd juat like to walk into a plce and pick one up.

Does anyone have any experience with this product?

Works pretty good, just slower than IronX. I like to buy as needed because I had a real sensitive sense of smell (pre Covid) and these type of products would really stink up the garage and I also had a bottle disintegrate and it was a real disaster. The only negative I had with the Megs was the spray tip sucked right out of the box, I cleaned it after use and it was still bad

•Basically:
-The Clay-ing process removes contaminates
that are bonded to the paint.

•On the other hand:
-Isn’t Meguiar’s D180101 Wheel & Paint
Iron Decon the product to use, when you
want to “remove iron”?

{Or perhaps you’re talking about
Meguiar's Iron Removing Spray
#DRTU200232?

-It’s my understanding that Meguiar’s
product #D200200 is a Clay-ing Kit.

The D2002 is an iron remover that can be also used as a clay lube, confusing right?

•And on top of that, Meguiar’s doesn’t
recommend using it as a Clay lube for
any of their Professional Clays (C2000;
C2100).

-It’s OK using it with the Clay pad in the
G200200 Clay Kit, though. Say Whhaaat?!?!

You would have to be nuts to use that as a clay lube, even though what bob said is true per directions. It says right on the bottle...Do not allow product to dry. Which is almost impossible to do when claying.

I have tried a bottle of it, it works. I have a gallon of adams now and thats all ive ever tried so far.

HOW is it "impossible" to not let it dry while claying? lol You spray a panel, let it dwell then clay it and rinse off. Then move to the next panel. Not sure why you said IMPOSSIBLE?

Not sure why you said IMPOSSIBLE?For me it dried quick. So trying to use it as a lay lube it would dry on the surface before being able to finish the steps you had mentioned. Directions said to not let dry on the surface. Just my experience with it. Yours may be diff than mine

BTW, I still only exclusively use Quik Detailer, in the maroon bottle, as my clay lube. Did it on day 1 and have been doing it ever since!

For those experiencing quick evaporation of the Megs Iron Removing Spray Clay (D2002), you can agitate the surface with a wash mitt to keep it foamy to extend the dwell time. Obviously you would need to do this BEFORE it dries and while still wet. You'd just need to time it appropriately.

This is what Markus Kleiss recommends. He used to work for Meguiar's and has a great video explanation HERE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CVrIWvJFpA&t=438s#t=15m3s). (link is already queued to precise mark)

I have used this product along with a Nanoskin clay towel to clay the surface. There is NO issues using it this way. Markus explains that there is a package built into the formula specifically for lubrication.

D2002 is perfect for well maintained vehicles that don't have a lot of paint contamination. Its iron removing capability is LESS aggressive than Megs Iron Decon. The great thing about it is that you can kill two birds with one stone by doing iron decon and claying in one easy step.

You can also do this with Gyeon Restart Wash (https://www.autogeek.net/gyeon-q2m-restart-wash.html). It has the lubrication for claying (because its a soap) and the iron remover built in. I actually think Restart wash has a little more of the iron remover active ingredient (thioglycolate). At least that's what my nose tells me.

FWIW, Im on bottle number 2 but Im replacing it with Megs Iron and Wheel Decon. I do like the product but for me it was a duplicate product in my line. I will say it makes white pop and it does a better job of releasing other contaminates, more so than IWD.
