the truck (2021 Silverado 2500HD) has been sitting outside the last few days. i gave it a wash tonight and found stains on the surface that seem to be very difficult to get out. while they do come out with a lot of elbow grease, its a big truck, so i'm looking for a more efficient way to remove those stains. after a quick look, I found that meguires ultimate compound will remove oxidation, scratches, water spots and blemishes without scratching. what i have in the paint i guess i would refer too as 'blemishes'. would you think Meguires is something i could use to remove these blemishes/stains or is there something better? thanks in advance -- Brian

It depends on what the stains are but I worked on a white Mercedes C300 with a lot of road grime and stains. I used Stoners Tarminator along with a Wolfgang Das Bug Sponge and it removed the stains with ease. I did a full paint correction afterwards so I wasn't concerned about marring the surface. The stains came out and the car was a bright white.

Any pics?

One of the biggest complaints here on the forum from owners of vehicles with white paint is "staining".

Have you used an iron removal product such as Iron-X?

The great thing about Tarminator or Iron X is that you let the chemicals do the work.

Meguiar’s has what is known as:
“The 5 Step Paint Care Cycle”.

Step 1.)
•Washing/(Drying)

Step 2.)
•Clean/Prep (contaminates/defect removal)
-There are two categories of contaminates:
1.) Above-Surface Contaminants
a.) Use Clay/clay-lube to remove

2.) Below Surface Defects
a.) Use Paint Cleaners or Compound Products
to remove
b.) Meguiar’s Ultimate Compound (UC) falls
within this paint cleaning step.

•Going forward:
-IMO: If Claying doesn’t remove the staining,
it usually means it’s a below surface defect...
-it will then be necessary to use a good “paint
cleaner” such as Meguiar’s UC.

Note:
Be sure to follow up with a Wax, Sealant, etc.

Assuming you are looking at removing random stains by hand, Meg's Ultimate Compound is a pretty good choice to try, but be sure to use light hand pressure. It can leave some hazing behind if you use too much pressure.

I think Ultimate polish would be a better choice, but either should work.

Before either the compound or polish I would try a clay bar to determine if the spots are actually an above surface contaminant.

here are some pics. ignore the brown in the hood3 pic, it is just a shadow, so you can see the staining better.

I would start out with something that is not very aggressive and that has a "cleaning" capability as well ... BF One Step for example. If that doesn't work, dial it up a notch at a time.

Here's your pictures. I downloaded them as attachments and then uploaded them into your free gallery (https://www.autogeekonline.net/gallery/showgallery.php/cat/500/ppuser/119345) here on AGO so they have an actual URL address. Now they can be "inserted" for easier viewing.

When you say they come out with lots of elbow grease? Are you RUBBING the paint HARD while washing to get them out? Or just rubbing them with a cloth?

I have a little experience with Meguiar's Ultimate Compound. I'll share my article in a follow-up post.

YES - Meguiar's Ultimate Compound can and should remove the blemishes.

You have two options,

1: Apply by hand.

2: Apply by machine.

If you're in it to win it - and you don't own a polisher yet. Because this is a HUGE truck - my strong recommendation is to invest in a quality polisher, some foam pads and either the Meguiar's Ultimate Compound or a GREAT cleaner/wax like the BLACKFIRE One Step or 3D Speed.

All three products will fix your trucks paint. The difference is - if you use the Meguiar's Ultimate Compound - you'll have to go around the truck a SECOND time to seal the paint with something. Compounds only remove defects - they don't add any protection ingredients.

If you use the BLACKFIRE One Step or the 3D Speed, these two products are like a compound mixed with a sealant thus you only have to go around this HUGE truck once.

If you don't have a polisher, then take a look at either the Griot's G9 or a simple Porter Cable 7424XP.

Hope that helps...

it takes a lot more effort to get the blemishes out when washing. a little less effort with just a cloth. i do have the Porter Cable 7424XP using Lake Counytry CCS pads, (black, blue and green). i will give the BlackFire one step a try along with the BLACKFIRE BlackICE Hybrid Liquid Wax. thank you for the information and advice!! --Brian

Bob

Will try doing this as well. There's a stubborn stain on my truck as well.
