Hello everyone,

My wife purchased a new 2020 Kia Optima (her favorite car) with the pearl white paint. In the package came "paint protection" for $xxx, not sure, a couple hundred. If I was to polish and wax the car, would I be voiding some type of paint protection warranty? Living in the Midwest, I am always struggling with the road salts used and the damage they do to paint.

Thank you all.

Did they give you any paper work on the paint protection? If not, I would call your sales agent and request one..after all you paid for it.

I'm sure it won't prohibit you from spraying on some sealant.

I also would not rely heavily on the paint protection that the dealer applied. It's all about profits for them.

Most of the new car treatments from dealers are a simple polymer protection, it’s not very durable, it’s usually off within a year, that’s why they want you to come back for a “recharge” , it’s certainly not a ceramic sealant. I would polish it off and put on something more substantial like the SI02 sprays and sealants that are out there now.

Dealerships paint protection is usually a coating made by Simoniz Glass Coat. It's a mediocre coating at best and even worse with their poor prep and application methods.

It is a massive up sell with very quick, poor applications. Massive rip off.

Weather you paid for it or not, I would not feel one bit bad if ya polished it off and applied something else.

Thank you everyone. No, it was something I negotiated off the sale, but if there is ever a paint related is while under warranty, I just don't want to be responsible for a paint repair on a brand new car; well at least for a couple of years anyway.
