Had speed stained trim?

Do you guys know if he speed stained the trim or did it just clean it? It does look more black towards the bottoms that’s why I’m thinking it cleaned it

You should have taped it if you didn't want it getting on your trim. It looks like your trim needs some work anyway.

I would now tape the paint, clean the trim and use a dedicated trim restorer such as WETS.

the trim is not damaged tho right? If I get trim restorer it should be fine?

Probably not damaged but needs to be treated the same over the entire surface of trim. So once you hit some parts with the buffer (and product), you need to hit all of it. What I can’t tell is if it is the product that is changing the color/sheen or if it was because it was polished with the buffer.

But once you buff all of the trim, I agree to wipe it off well(panel wipe even better) and then apply a trim treatment.

would I be able to buff the trim with the 5 inch pad I was using? I don’t have a smaller backing plate or machine. So the reason the trim looks different on the bottom is because it essentially cleaned the trim?

That is my hypothesis, yes. I think you buffed some product onto the trim and it cleaned and conditioned the trim with your buffing product. As long as you can fit the 5” pad everywhere you need, I’d give it a shot. Especially with more recent products that don’t have wax, a lot of them work just fine with trim and I don’t see any staining so I’d recommend doing the entire trim the same way to achieve a consistent look. In the future, as Rsurfer mentioned, you may want to tape over the trim but as this shows you, with this particular buffing product, it doesn’t appear to negatively impact the look of the trim as long as you do the same thing everywhere. For a lot of recent one step products, you can use over trim, headlights, glass, etc though always test in an inconspicuous spot before using it everywhere.

Okay sounds good. I was worried I may have damaged the satin finish but I don’t think so.

I tried polishing the rest of the trim by hand but it didn’t leave the same finish as the da and hd speed did.

Oh....do the same thing that you did before on trim.

Break out the DA and whatever you used before and give it a light buzz cut and be done. Should only take a couple minutes.
