I’m touch up some dings on our Durango (red octane dark red color)

How do I ensure the touch up paint actually bonds to metal?

The Dodge dealer touch up paint only comes with paint and clear coat in a pen.

Also any tips to ensure a uniform look and not have it all over the place?

Hummmm....with what you said above.

Clean chip with alcohol.

I'll take the paint pen and try to put dab of paint on a plate or glass.
Get tooth pick and dab the paint. Then dab paint onto the chip. Just a little. let dry for a few hours, repeat.

If paint is high---Lightly sand area with ultra fine grit w/ water.
Lightly polish sanded area.

Thanks Tom,

So touch up paint bonds good, even without primer paint? I just want my truck to look good.

I had the pleasure of seeing a guy driving a Corvette open his door and chip our truck.

I didn’t tell him anything no point arguing with random people, but I was ticked.

Thanks I’ll just give it a go and I’ll take your advice.

That doesnt sound right a corvette is fiberglass and the odds of it chipping paint on a metal door has to be a 1 in 10 million fiber glass is dull.

Can you post a pic of the chip , maybe it put a dent and left a mark if so that can be cleaned an pdr.

A picture is worth 1k words.

The chips are not on a Vette, the vehicle is a Durango which indeed is steel and aluminum

I understand what you were saying ,but a vette opening a fiberglass door hard enough to dent a metal car and chip the paint is crazy fiber glass is not like metal and is dull and edge is thicker, post a pic :Picture:

Well, I saw the guy get off and swing his door wide open hit our truck. I got ticked, when he left I remote started our SUV, and he was more careful. The corvette was new he had carton plates, just have more courtesy.

When I went to see there is a small chip around that area, and I keep track of where chips are believe it or not.

I guess when you have money and can afford one it doesn’t matter but still, people don’t care.

Sent from my iPhone using AGOnlineThis is gonna sound strange but if you lick the tip of your finger and dab it does it go away if not

your best bet is get a piece of masking tape and cut a hole the size of the chip,

then put paper and tape around it and airbrush a coat or two of base then a coat or two of clear remove your tape

block sand it the next day and polish that are and it might be a hair lighter or darker..

Any bodyshop with a mixing system can mix just 1oz of base,

If you cant do it yourself I'd be looking for a custom shop or motorcycle shop that does flames etc

On the other hand if it almost goes away after doing that with your finger you can get a little clear from a shop and dab it in then sand it etc.

I would not be so fast to blame the chip on the corvette given the photo. You have a straight line marring from a door above that and the chip has no linear marks. That chip does look like more from rocks flying down the highways. They can ding paint and leave that jagged edge. Happens all the time on my local roads with so much construction and junk in our tires.

Had similar issue with a 1-year old high end Lexus. Two rock chips on top of the fender that chipped it down to primer. Really a pain these days with so much care we give our vehicles.

I agree, looks more like a rock chip than a door ding.
