Long story short. Saw a Detailer cleaning cars at work. He had all the equipment. One car was done so I stopped to talk to him. Super nice guy. Anyway, the tires looked awesome. Looked dripping wet but were dry to the touch. I asked him what he used. He said Meguiars endurance tire gel cut with isopropyl alcohol. 50:50

Anyone ever done this before?

I personally have never diluted any
petroleum-based tire dressings, or
known of anyone else to do so.

But that’s not to say it can’t be
effectively done.

•However:
1.) I would think that if IPA was the dilutant it
would have to be @100% grade—contains no
water. [Petroleum (ie: Oil)/Water don’t mix.]
-Anyway: IPA is a very fast-to-evaporate solvent.

With that in mind:

2.) If I was going to attempt to dilute
Endurance Gel, I would use one of the
same petroleum distillates that comprise
the makeup of the Endurance Gel.
-(BTW: IPA doesn’t appear to be one of
those petroleum distillates)

IMO:
-The easiest Endurance Gel petroleum distillate
to source would be hydrotreated (de-sulferized)
kerosene.
-In other words: Low/No-odor Kerosene, available
at many brick & mortar and/or big box stores.
Ace Hardware, for example.

•Mixing ratio?
-I’d start out with a just a few drops of the afore-
mentioned kerosene, stirred into a small bowl,
(or similar vessel), containing a measured amount
of tire gel. Adjust mixture to your specifications.

-Later, if so desired, you could extrapolate your
new-found diluting ratio onto an entire container
of Endurance Gel.

IMO it took a chemist or two to develop this tire gel along with countless tweaking. Why not use it as is?

I’ve used it before and didn’t like it. Like other products better. So I wrote it off. But seeing it on this car and applied the way it was looked amazing. Just seeing if this was something being done. And it’s not like we as a detailing community haven’t modified products before.

i prefer a water based tire dressing...i like a CLEAN non greasy appearance. also cannot stand the sling of petroleum based gels.

I agree. I tried to like Endurance but just couldn't

•Meguiar’s says that if their Endurance Tire Gel
is applied according to their recommendations/
directions, it is “ghar-awn-teed” not to sling.

I used to use this on my wife's car. To keep it from slinging, I had to apply it the night before and let it dry. I eventually gave it away.

Definitely need to apply very sparingly to avoid sling, especially in the hot summer states. You apply the endurance gel in the cool when the tires are cold, then the tires heat up and day gets into the 90s... sling, sling, sling.

I use the gel so sparingly that after 2 years, and washing my car 2x monthly, I still have more than half the bottle left. But I do like the look when I don’t over-apply the gel. I prefer a black tire , not a shiny tire.

Ok so I did my experiment and cut it 50/50 with isopropyl alcohol. Worked awesome. Just needed a little bit. Spread easy. Has satin finish. Looks wet but is dry by the time I finished the next tire.

Glad to hear it worked well. Report back on longevity. I'll probably try it out on my next wash.

The IPA seems like a great way to make it dry to the touch but personally I am not crazy about Endurance Gel. I have used it on different occasions hoping for great results but it was mediocre. I like the glossy look but it washed off with the first rain. I am much happier with Duragloss 253.

After a week, still has a matte finish. Beads water. Looks clean but not like it did. The ipa helped it dry quickly.

I had a bottle of this sitting in a cabinet for about 10 years, so it's what I decided to use this year when dressing my tires. Yes, I wasn't into cleaning my car for TEN YEARS.

For my color car and wheels, I wish I could make my tires piano black. I like my tires looking very greasy and shiny. The greasy shine tends to last a good week, then it sort of mattes out a bit. I get some sling from it, but really only when I goop too much between the treads, otherwise it's pretty manageable. After the initial drive remove the specks with quick detailer and after that it's pretty much good to go.

After a week are you satisfied?
