First let me introduce myself. I am a really nice guy, bla bla bla, and I appreciate your help. I have an SUV, and ATV and a Corvette.

This post is about my 2008 silver Acura MDX SUV. I want to wax or seal it with a durable hydrophobic coating. For this car, shine and polish don't matter to me. It's paint still looks good and shiny but it has several door dings and a few scratches so I don't feel the need for show car coating. However, I do want to protect it from the elements including sun damage because I live at 6000' elevation. Also, here in the Sierra Nevada mountains, in the Winter the roads are sanded to improve traction. That dirt sticks to the car and can collect for a month until it's warm enough to wash it off or get rain washed.

I'd apreciate it if you could point me to any car coating test info but anecdotal info is good too.

Thanks for any advice.

Doug

So far CQUK 3 and Gliss have worked the best at releasing dirt in Wisconsin winter.
We have sand/brine and salt mixes here that turn into a gem of a road film.

I believe it helps the winter nasty from accumulating as quick as a sealant that is a few months old.
Other than that coating business, I would opt in for Collinite 845 for an easy peazy durable sealant.
I have used 845 on various cars for winter protection. Now I just use a coating to make life a little easier.

Welcome to the forum.

A majority of coatings are hydrophobic. Most are as durable as the environment they are exposed to and how they are cared for. Probably not the answer you want to hear. Be ready to get many different recommendations.

Stick with one of the known brands and you will be just fine. For example CarPro or Gtechniq.

A google search didn't find CQUK but it did find CarPro CQuartz UK 3.0 which I think is the same stuff. I googled Gliss and just got hair care products.

I'm new at this and in the past I have always used McQuiers Carnuba Wax. I don't know the difference between a Coating and Sealer but based on this post coatings are better than sealers?

CQuartz UK 3.0 yes and CarPro Gliss V2.

There are better products than waxes for protection. I haven't used any of the new Meguiars products and honestly don't have the need.

Coating= most durable, more prep, careful and precise application, pretty much a solid year of durability maybe more.
Sealant = durable for maybe 5-6 months and easier application. I can fly over a car with Collinite 845 and removal is absolutely no effort.
They make coating lites that reviews give about 6 months of protection with outstanding performance.

Thanks, spazzz!

Do you recommend putting Gliss on top of UK 3.0 or just one or the other?

UK 3.0 is prone to water spotting and is not slick. Gliss will help in those departments.

Take a dartboard and write several top contenders on sticky notes and attach to the dartboard. Close your eyes and throw a dart. Pick the one closest to the dart. Let fate make the decision.

First I need to know more top contenders. Do you know any top contenders?

Cquartz UK is great love it.

Other recommended brands

Opti coat
Kamikaze
Gtechniq
Gyeon
Shine supply beadlock
Pinnacle black label.
IGL
22ple

If looking for something a little easier and not looking for longest protection look into coating lights.

Gyeon Cancoat should be right up your alley

CQ UK 3.0 is awesome!!! Another good one, but not quite as durable or hydrophobic is Gtechniq CSL. SUPER easy to apply!
