Hello,

Meguiar’s wheel and tire cleaner dilution ratio 1:1 or 2:1. I did just that and my results could be better. What am I doing wrong?

***Also I’ve heard APC can stain OEM factory painted clear coated rims, is this true?***

First rims are from my work van

Need more info. Are you agitating or spray and rinse?

You are officially banned from using "Sorry".

Don't be sorry to ask questions, man. :)

Step 1, get rid of those iron wheel weights. You're going to need more than a non-acidic wheel cleaner for rust.

@Rambler ok [emoji848]
However It still don’t cut through the brake dust on our OEM black painted clear coated rims as pictured below.

I’ve heard (heard) that acidic wheel cleaners can damage clear coat on rims, that it can etch them over time. That is why I got non acidic, again that what I heard 🤷🏻#♂️

Did you allow it to dwell before scrubbing ? If so, try a little longer. Otherwise you might need to step up to something like the D140.

I always had good luck with D143, used to purchase it from autozone but I just ordered a gallon from AG last week when it was on sale...unfortunately it’s now on backorder.

I would always spray, let dwell for 2-3 minutes, use speed master brush to get the barrels, then use a dedicated mitt for the faces...worked like a champ!

Tires, spray at the same time, let dwell for 2-3 minutes then use a tire brush to agitate, rinse and move on.

I’ll be watching the thread for any tips.

Jay

@Rambler,
Yes I spray and let sit couple minutes then agitate. Even on the black rims, I spray product let sit and then go agitate and cleans but most brake dust still remains.

@Jayfro
I “heard” acidic wheel cleaner can etch my clear coat rims, not really sure if that true that why I’m asking

You need a good detail brush, and a fall out remover. Like Iron X or something like that. Melts the iron deposits for the most thorough removal of old brake dust.

Hey Will,

Ok man, I won’t complain. I’ll just look for something else, thanks everyone.

Stay safe out there

Just to add.....

Not last year, but I think the year before, I taught a class at Mobile Tech Expo and the title was,

The top 10 tools you need to start a detailing business

In the class, I explained that when you are first starting out - you're going to do a LOT of car washing. And then I educated that in order to,

Work fast
Work efficiently

You MUST have great tools for getting a car clean and this includes GREAT brushes that enable you, with your puny human body, (arms and hands), to use brushes to get wheels and tires clean. Not just any wheels and tires, but in most cases SEVERELY NEGLECTED wheels and tires.

For anyone reading this into the future, (because I never type for the present but only the future), if you're going to detail cars you MUST have great brushes for cleaning the wheels and tires.

Here's some help in this area,

Must Have Wheel Cleaning Brushes that make cleaning wheels fast and easy (https://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/how-to-articles-by-mike-phillips/123881-must-have-wheel-cleaning-brushes-make-cleaning-wheels-fast-easy.html)
