View Full Version : Do not put buffing pads in the dryer

For years I have hand washed my buffing pads, threw them in the washer then allowed them to air dry.

I have recently read where someone puts them in the dryer with no issues. I understand where dryers can be different. I ran them on low heat and the pads ended up delaminating. I had 15 LC force hybrid pads and 6 Buff and Shine pads do this. Pretty expensive mistake on my end.

I’m sure different brand of dryers have a different temperature for the “low” setting and this is why it works for them and not me.

Just be aware of this. I suggest allowing buffing pads to just air dry and don’t have the same loss as me.

Dang. Good to know as I've done this in the (long ago) past with no issues. Won't do that again!

Sucks you lost 21 pads.

Do people toss pads in a front load washing machine with any success? There is not that same nice standing water in a FL as a TL.

I used Griots Pad and Microfiber cleaner sprayed directly on the pads and followed the directions on the bottle to work it in by hand and wring the pad until clean. This worked for my white polish pads...but my black finishing pads got so loaded up with wax due to over application. I sprayed liberally on the black pads and just "left them sit" a couple days ago. They seem MUCH better but not really sure I got them totally clean for another use.

Our electric front load dryer has an Air Dry setting, it pulls in fresh air, so no heat. So far *fingers crossed* no pad delamination.

I think you will be safe.

I have done this in the past and usually only have a few that start to delaminate. I always felt that it was being submerged in the washer was the culprit. I will say though, that I always wash and dry my MF pads in the washer and dryer and have yet to have any ill effects.
I just end up using the delaminated pads for “hand polishing”. I feel it’s better then tossing them away.
