Hello Mike

I've purchased a dark blue metallic 2013 911 991. I am the third owner. The previous owner says he's unaware of any repainting on the car. The overall appearance inside and out suggests very good care. There are very fine random scratches on the hood but few on the sides. I have purchased an orbital polisher and intend to follow your instructions for a paint correction for "Good Condition" as you describe in your "Complete Guide" manual/book. Does Porsche paint of this model and age require special consideration or handling? Is it extra thin or soft requiring a different approach? Thank you for your expert advice.

Porsche paint of this vintage, in my experience, will be medium, and once corrected will look spectacular! As far as how 'thin' it is, the only way know for sure is to use a paint gauge on it to measure it.

Follow the excellent advice/directions/etc in this 'good book' and you shall be fine.

Sorry for the late reply, was in the garage shooting the Number #7 Live Broadcast.

I've worked on a lot of older Porsche's and I would say the factory clearcoat paints (and also single stage paints), are on the soft side. Could be the medium spectrum but the ONLY way to know for sure is to do some testing.

Here's a recent factory 1996 Porsche I detailed and the paint was Uber soft. Click the link and be sure to read what I say about my Test Spots and what I finally ended up using to CORRECT the paint.
