Speed Master Wheel Brush Scratches

Hi all,

I'm in search of a new tool to clean my wheels. There are two brushes on the market that I am considering, which are the EZ Brush and the Speed Master. From what I've read, these brushes leave behind small scratches over time. Is this true? Has anyone experienced this issue?

Possible if the rims are painted and the paint is soft.

But when this is the issue, just about any brush or wheel cleaning tool could do the same thing.


Take a look at the Wheel Woolies Boar's Hair Wheel Brush. One of my favorite brushes. I use thee for all types of work.

Plus one vote for the Boars hair brush - that's my favorite I've used. Works great even for intricate designs (Used on multi-piece BBS Basketweave style wheels with great success).

I've got the Speedmaster brushes, and while I haven't noticed any scratching from them, they mainly excel at redepositing all the wheel cleaner and brake dust from my wheel onto me and my clothes. Just not a fan of them.

In hindsight, I really wish I would have gotten the Wheel Woolies microfiber style wheel cleaners for doing barrels.

Added - To Mike's point, I've also used the short handled Boars Hair wheel brush (clean and dry of course) for dusting dash vents - works great. I got mine from Griot's a while back, but other than the color looks identical to the one Mike showed.

I usually clean the face of the rim with a microfiber wash mitt, which has worked well. I'm in search of something that will reach between the brake caliper and barrel. Will a set of wheel woolies be able to do the same job as the brush?

Wheel Woolies are my all time favorite go to wheel brushes.

I like Wheel Woolies. I have not tried the boars hair brush, would like to at some point. I have the other brush you’re talking about and don’t really like it, too much splatter.

The problem with wheel woolies is they usually dont fit between the front calipers and wheel barrels...

I love the Woolywormit, its just perfect and dont scratch, it worth every cent

I have the wheel woolies, EZ detail and the wheel woolies Boars hair brush. I have a real tight fit between calipers and wheels. The EZ detail won’t fit nor the large wheel woolie. The medium is a tight fit and feel it might get damaged so i use the small.

The small in actually great between spokes too.

My process:

Large WW: for most of barrels and outer rims

Small WW: under calipers and between spokes.

I have not busted out the WWBHB (forgot i bought it till spring cleaning this week. It will be used to get the faces. The spokes come out to the very lips so ther is barrel exposed behind them. I use Autofiber wheee mitts for those.

Long story short: get the WW 3pack MF cleaners and the BHB

I wish the head of the wheel woolie boars hair brush was less clunky. You really can't maneuver inside spokes without the plastic head hitting.

It should have the design of the Mothers wheel brush with rubber bumper to be a real winner.
