ONR vs Foam and Wash - If you could do either which would you choose?

I've been using ONR for about 6 months on my wife's Black Outback. Originally I started to use ONR at the same time I am switched to the Gary Dean method because of fear of swirls on the soft Outback black paint. However, lately, I feel I am not getting my car as clean as I use to with 'soap'. I've had to go over a panel a few times to get clean (the car wasn't overly dirty, to begin with) The multiple wash towels I think is the key to cut down (out) on swirls.

Because I only wash my two cars and don't have more data to go on so I ask the question - If the use of water isn't an issue would you use soap/shampoo or ONR?

I use rinseless 90% of the time, if weather cooperates in winter I'll try and 2bm wash just to deep clean wheel wells and enjoy weather. During boat towing season I'll only 2bm if the bug splatter is crazy.

I’m about 50/50 and use waterless (Ammo Frothe in particular). Larry (from Ammo) says its to be used in lieu of water. If you have water use it.

Never have seen an article with Mike Phillips rinseless’ing but have seen ton with bucket washes.

Id assume the more lubricity the better and your going to get more from bucket and soap. I rinseless/waterless due to weather (rain/cold). in winter. If its summer its strictly for time. I do this knowing ita propably not best for paint.

NOTHING beats a traditional wash. Lots of water and a quality shampoo is the safest method! While I do use rinseless washes and they work amazingly well, the fact that lots of water flooding abrasive contamination away from the paint can not be beat. Rinseless washes are fantastic for situations that require them. If you are in a situation where you can choose, traditional is the way to go...!!!

Traditional for sure. I can’t live without my foam gun and multiple mitts!

It depends on how dirty the vehicle is and what the vehicle is dirty with. If it is just a little dust, then a rinseless wash is a great way to go. The rinseless wash is also a good choice in the garage in the winter. However if the vehicle is schmutzed up with mud, road salt or heavier grime, then a foam and/or bucket wash is the way to go. I always feel better if I can at least remove as much road slop as I can first with a hose or power washer first.

In terms of safety/ safeguarding against marring,I have found for years, the foam gun is the way to go. I can’t find any better way to flush and dislodge dirt whether it’s light dirt or heavier grime.

Do you pre rinse with a regular hose nozzle or a power washer?

I pre rinse with the foam gun attached to a hose. You can switch the settings on the gun between rinsing with water and foaming. If I used a power washer I would just get a foam cannon

This whole time I thought you were talking about a foam cannon... So you pre rinse using the foam gun. No water pre rinse though?

Sure you can pre rinse with water. You can do that with the foam gun attached to the hose if you like. I often rinse with water, foam the whole car, then foam the section I’m working on while whisking with the mitt. The key is to have plenty of soapy foam running over the paint while you whisk with the mitt.

THIS!!! I avoid rinseless wash.
