Would using a machine to remove the flaking clear coat followed by Optimum Clear Coat Restorer work to make this car look at least halfway presentable in the dark?

My goal is not to have a shiny new paint job. I just need something that doesn't look at terrible. Don't care if the paint looks matte, or dull, or I can't shave using the door panel as a mirror. Just need something that looks...red...and not flaky.

Sorry to say, but you have a lost cause there.

Don't waste your $$ on the OCCR. It will do nothing for CC failure that bad.

It's either repaint that car or live with it.

Repaint is the fix. Optimum clear coat restorer won’t fix this or even help. It’s not designed for that purpose.

And yes, Maaco would be able to give you the results that you are after.

And if you leave the windows down, they'll do the interior for free !
