Thank you everyone for your prayers and support for Autogeek and all our staff during the recent hurricane. We're all very thankful that the hurricane avoided a direct hit to land.


Hurricane season runs from September through October and right up to November, so we're not out of the danger time zone yet.

It continues to amaze me how accurate atmospheric science has gotten. They just about nailed the forecast path of that thing.

As a pilot in college it amazed me how good they were in the early to mid 80's. They've come a long way in 30 years.

I continue to hope and pray for those still nervous with it's proximity along with our friends in the Bahamas who aren't sure what freakin' planet they're on but hopefully the worst is over.

Actually, the first 2-3 days every weather forecaster for all the channels I watched, (ABC, NBC, Weather Channel, CNN and FOX), everyone predicted it to make landfall.

No one predicted it to stall out for days. According to this Wired article (https://www.wired.com/story/why-hurricane-dorian-defied-forecasts-and-sank-the-bahamas/), Dorian stalled out for over 40 hours over the Bahamas.


Second to last sentence in the last paragraph of the article.




By Tuesday afternoon, it had already spent 40 hours parked over Grand Bahama Island and dumped 24 inches of rain.




All the weather forecasters CHANGED their predictions AFTER the hurricane did start moving and then did start moving North by Northwest. But originally they ALL predicted it to move West and making landfall.


I for one noticed this as well as a lot of other people. I think the weather forecasters do the best they can with the information they have but the at least initially got it wrong.

For a while there, the weather people on the NY newscasts said that they actually had no idea what the storm would do, or where it would go after it lost all steering currents/influences.

In addition to that they never predicted it to get much over a minimal hurricane. In the end, mother nature has the final say.

I agree. Back in the 60's, you'd almost do as well as the weather man to just look out the back door.

But forecasting will never be perfect ... the laws of thermodynamics alway win out.
