Buildup / Streaking on Metal Trim

Any idea what this build up is on my exterior metal trim? Car is about a month old. I had it coated with Kamikaze Miyabi (painted surfaces only I believe.) I run the car through a touch free car wash each week. The detailer who applied my coating said this was all fine...



Pre soak shampoo
Laser Wash
Clear Coat Protectant
Spot Free Rinse
Max Air Dry


I am guessing this is some sort of build-up from the shampoo or clear coat protectant at the car wash? How should I remove this? It's the bluish then brownish alternating streaking on the metal trim... Thanks!

Thanks. Are you saying the car wash could be capturing the drain water, filtering it some way and then re-using it?

If that trim is aluminum, you could try a white vinegar & water solution to see if it will remove the stain. Do a small test spot. Rinse the area afterwards. One thing you do not want to use on aluminum is an alkali-based cleaner.

Does it come off at all? Could be stains on anodized aluminum. Common on German cars.

See the VW TDI Wagon I just did. Couldn't remove it but GYEON Q2 Trim covers it up 95% plus.

I am actually not sure of the material. I guess I will call the dealership tomorrow and ask them. It's a brand new car with only 600 miles.

I have read somewhere that recycled water in car washes are highly alkaline or acidic. In addition some automatic car washes will use hydrofluoric acid in there cleaning process because it’s effectiveness on dirt...etc.

Audi had a big problem with this a few years back and replaced a lot of trim under warranty. It’s from the alkaline cleaners in touchless car washes and there is no known fix.
