A friend is coming over tomorrow and we will detail his BMW X5, so I don't have time to shop around for a dedicated clay lube. Can BM be used as a clay lube?

Nope. Definitely not a good idea. It's not a quick detailer, it's a spray sealant. What other products you have? We might be able to find something better that works. Or just get something at Autozone/Pep Boys/O'Reilly, they should all have some clay lube on the shelf.

I believe Griots Speed Shine can double as a clay lube, something you might find locally.

Speed Shine is an excellent clay lube...can usually be found at Autozone. Don't get the Best Of Show Quick Detailer...it's not meant to be used as clay lube

In a pinch, soapy water can be used for clay lube. If you have a rinseless, or waterless wash, those can be used as a clay lube too.
