Once fully corrected put two layers of a solid quality ceramic coating on it. When drying use a blower and do any and ALL final wipe downs or applications of detail sprays and drying aids with a damp MF Rag never a dry one. Use distilled water (less spotting) with a rinseless solution as your drying aid and keep the ratios at the level of what the brand specifies for a drying aid or the polymers in the product will spot. Do that and you won't see micro marring. I've had numerous black cars including mine now.

Welcome into the discussion, mirrorimageky!

Sorry to hear you're having difficulty. Did you first do a test spot with Presta?

I don't have any experience with that brand as it's not sold at Autogeek. If I remember correctly it was a body shop rotary type product line. It may not like or behave well with the Flex 3401 (even though it is still a forced rotation machine).

Another question is...are you sure the marring is from the Presta finishing polish and black pad? Could it be from another process you've already done like washing or drying or maybe even towels? Just trying to narrow down some trouble shoot ideas.

Hi
I haven’t done the entire car just a test spot
The paint is not in bad condition i am trying perfect but my method didn’t work as planned

The presta polishing I use it on a regular basis
But I wonder if I need to use free spin DA instead of force rotation?

What do you think

The Flex's forced or gear driven rotation is certainly more aggressive than a free spinning orbital. Machine "action", along with the abrasives and pads can result in micromarring. I'm leaning towards the abrasives on THAT paint. Are they diminishing abrasives in Presta? If so, maybe the black pad isn't breaking them down fully.

Do you have a free spinning machine? Or can borrow one?

Micro-marring comes primarily from either abrasive technology or pads or both. I have found a gear-driven orbital can enhance either of these two root causes of micro-marring and this is why having a free spinning orbital on hand is a good idea.

I just posted about his today here,

Thank goodness you only did a Test Spot. This is also WHY you do a Test Spot.

I have worked with people on this forum and other places that did NOT do a Test Spot and proceeded to micro-mar an entire car.

I have never used Presta products, so I don't have a real-world opinion to add.

How soon do you need to get this job done?

Where do you live?

I've had luck switching to a free spinning orbital polisher for the final polishing step after first correcting with the BEAST. Here's my documented example from 2012 - I'm so glad I document all my work and pictures.

Christmas Detail - Ferrari P4 - Move over Rudolf (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/show-n-shine/58698-christmas-detail-ferrari-p4-move-over-rudolf.html)

Note the tools listed in my process

This is a reproduction of the Ferrari P4. Ferrari only built three 1967 P4's all of these still exist today and are accounted for. In the late 1980's, Noble Automotive in England was commissioned to build a reproduction for a private collector and this is the Noble P4. It cost over $300,000.00 at the time of the build including a Ferrari 308 engine, Porsche 915 transaxle and 5-speed transmission plus 4 down-draft Webber Carburetors.

The paint is Rosso Corsa Red in single stage and when I arrived and inspected the paint every inch of it was completely swirled out. I restored the paint using the following 5 steps.

Wiped car clean using Detailers Waterless Wash.
Clayed the paint using Pinnacle Ultra Poly Clay.
Machine polished the paint using Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover/Flex 3401/LC 6.5" Flat White Polishing Pad.
Machine polished the paint using Wolfgang Finishing Glaze/Meguiar's G110v2/LC 5.5" Flat White Polishing Pad
Machine waxed the paint using Wolfgang Fuzion/Meguiar's G110v2/LC 5.5" Flat Blue Finishing Pad.

I was ASKED in the thread WHY I finished out with the Meguiar's polisher, an 8mm free spinning random oribital polisher),

From post #31 (https://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/show-n-shine/58698-christmas-detail-ferrari-p4-move-over-rudolf-4.html#post809362)

I was directed here from another thread....glad I was. This is what you call candy coated, good grief it looks like the paint is "flowing". Amazing work!

What made you decide to finish out with the GV110 vs the Flex? Pad size selection or the non forced rotation maybe?

My answer in post #32 (https://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/show-n-shine/58698-christmas-detail-ferrari-p4-move-over-rudolf-4.html#post809378)

Good question...

I find on softer paints like this car has that the PC style with a Fine Cut Polish finishes out nicer than with the more powerful Flex 3401. The paint on this car was incredibly soft. I only did my test spot using the Flex 3401 and end-results were acceptable, I did the PC step just to "make sure".

I also machine applied the wax using the PC.

Here's the car....

Go away from the 3401 on soft paint, especially black. Free spinning DA is a better option

Thinking out loud here...

Short throw DA polisher and a more "gritty" abrasives.

When it comes to soft paint---better off using 8 mm short throw DA polisher like the griots 6" with a either polishing pad or even a finishing pad.

Also watch the abrasives. The ultra fine or fine polish probably will haze soft paint. Go with medium polish with bit more abrasives.

a quick look at that polish tells me it might be the water base. I only ever seem to get micro marring from water based polish. Try turning the speed on the flex down?

One water based polish that works great on a flex is the rupes millie ultrafine. no micro marring at all.
