Dumb question on using iron remover for first time

All,

Going to start prepping my Ford Escape for a fresh coat of ceramic coating. Want to try using iron remover before the clay step (never used it before, but it seems as if it will definitely help the process along, since it will remove a lot of stuff that could get caught in the clay).

I'm a little worried (maybe too much) about the gray plastic trim at the bottom edge of my doors. The stuff I am using does not mention anything about keeping it away from plastic (at least IIRC).

Is there any chance that it could damage the trim? Or should I just make sure it doesn't dwell too long, if some does drip down onto it.

I wash as normal in shade, spray ironx on paint after I let partially drip dry and spread with half a grout sponge avoiding the trim.
Don't let the iron remover dry.

I make sure I flush it with thorough rinses too.

The plastic trim has iron fallout from brake dust embedded in it too. I have not seen it cause any trouble with plastic trim.

The plastic trim has iron fallout from brake dust embedded in it too. I have not seen it cause any trouble with plastic trim.My f150 window trim does some staining,the hard plastics are ok with it.
Wear protective gloves,and a calm day helps to not have to breathe it though I wear a cheap 3m mask and safety glasses.

Never had an issue with it staining trim...
That being said, do not let it dry and rinse thoroughly.

Yes, I always use it like that.

I think of it almost like a pre wash foam step, except in this case it actually removes not only dirt but iron contaminants.

The only drawback is not being able to agitate [at least I won’t] when sprayed onto a vehicle that hasn’t been pre rinsed. On the other hand, if you pre rinse you run the risk of having some of the iron remover not only dilute, but run off the surface onto the ground. Pick your poison...

Or if you want to go complete OCD style you could pre rinse, wash, dry, then apply iron remover and repeat all those steps afterwards. That’s if you got the time and it’s your own car and don’t care how long it takes.[emoji4]

I do it pre rinse as well. I’ve not tried to foam it on via an IK sprayer but I’d like to try

The only problem I ever had was on wheel center caps, look like the product went inside the coat and totally trashed it

Always for me. I coat the car in Iron-X before the car gets wet. Avoids diluting the product. Then after letting it dwell rinse and proceed to wash.
